Michele Mariotti conducts Tancredi at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma

"Enchantment is provided by Michele Mariotti, the Teatro dell’Opera’s music director who was brought up on a diet of Rossini while growing up in Pesaro, the composer’s seaside birthplace and where Mariotti’s father founded the annual Rossini Opera Festival in 1980. Mariotti coaxed Rossini’s tiptoeing score as if stroking it with a feather duster and invested playing with elastic tension, his evocation of the Sicilian shore for Tancredi’s return — with stretched out waves and iridescent flashes of sunlight — utterly sublime."
