Conductor Karen Durgaryan appointed as General and Music Director of the Armenian National Opera and Ballet Theatre

Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of RA Ara Khzmalyan introduced Karen Durgaryan, the newly appointed Acting Director of A. Spendiarian Opera and Ballet National Academic Theatre, to the theater’s staff. Ara Khzmalyan informed that Constantine Orbelian's term of office has expired but expressed confidence that the edges of cooperation are not exhausted, it will continue with a new dimension, using the maestro's professional-practical potential at the Opera House. "I express my deep gratitude to Maestro Orbelian for his work and contribution over the years. The maestro is the figure whose arrival gave a new color, new content was formed in the Theatre, " emphasized Ara Khzmalyan. The deputy minister also thanked Theatre’s Deputy Director Karine Kirakosyan and the entire staff for the activity and initiative shown during the war. The deputy minister also noted that despite all the advantages and achievements, there are problems in the Theatre. There is enough work to be done to achieve a full result. Ara Khzmalyan introduced Karen Durgaryan to the staff of the Opera House, emphasizing that there is no need to present Maestro's activities in detail, as he has worked at A. Spendiarian Opera and Ballet National Academic Theatre, and he knows the peculiarities of the Theatre very well. The deputy minister congratulated Karen Durgaryan on this important but at the same time difficult and responsible work, wishing him an effective and productive work. "Karen Durgaryan will be acting director during these months. In the coming months, all the tasks, priorities and sequence of steps will be formulated. It is necessary to correctly assess the professional potential and repertoire policy according to that potential. It is necessary to have a purposeful repertoire policy that will contribute to the expansion of international cooperation, as it is a clear task for the newly appointed acting director - to mobilize not only the creative potential inside, but also outside of the Theatre. We have well-deserved names whose experience, knowledge and expertise must be applied to the advancement of Theatre. I must emphasize that our demands towards the acting director are quite strict, at the same time the executive power will fully support Maestro Durgaryan and all Theatre staff. "We will work very closely, all possible issues will be discussed," said Ara Khzmalyan, at the same time thanking Karen Durgaryan for agreeing to run the Armenian Opera house as a result of changing professional and personal priorities. Spendiarian Opera and Ballet National Academic Theatre Karen Durgaryan, in his turn, thanked the staff of the Theatre for the work done with Constantine Orbelian and the cooperation carried out during this period. "What refers to A. Spendiarian Opera and Ballet National Academic Theatre, I must mention that a certain rhythm of work will be offered, because the Opera House is a structure where we need rules, clear work, and at least 6 months schedule in advance. "I hope that we will carry out joint work with high professionalism and in a warm atmosphere”, said the newly appointed Acting director of the Theatre.
