The
Orchestre des Champs Elysées devotes itself to the performance of
classical and romantic repertoire on period instruments thanks to its
creation by the the joint initiative of Alain Durel, Director of the
Théâtre des Champs Elysées, and Philippe Herreweghe.
After having been in residence at the Théâtre des
Champs Elysées and the Palais des Beaux Arts in Brussels, the orchestra
has performed in almost all the major european concert halls, (Musikverein
in Vienna, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Barbican Centre in London,
Philharmonie in Munich, Alter Oper in Frankfurt , Philharmonie in
Berlin, the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, and the Auditoriums of Dijon and
Lucerne, de Doelen in Rotterdam). and toured Japan (Beethoven Symphony
n° 9) Asia and Australia (french music).
The Orchestre des Champs Elysées has recorded
numerous CDs under the direction of Philippe Herreweghe including the
Mozart's Requiem, Brahms' German Requiem, Beethoven's Missa Solemnis and
9th Symphony, Mendelssohn's Elijah, St Paul and Midsummer Night's Dream,
Berlioz's Enfance du Christ and the Nuits d'Eté, and not least
Schumann's Scenes From Faust, 2nd and 4th Symphonies, Piano Concert
(Andreas Staier) and 'cello Concerto (Christophe Coin) respectively
