| Founded
in 1987 by Antonio Florio , the Cappella della Pietà de' Turchini is
made up primarily of young instrumentalists and singers living and
working in Naples who specialise in the performance of Neapolitan music
from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries; in particular music by highly
gifted composers who are now largely unknown, such as Provenzale,
Trabaci, Veneziano, Nola, Netti, Caresana, Sabino and so on.
The unique programmes and rigorous approach to Baroque
performing practices make the Cappella one of the most interesting
realities in musical life in Italy, and indeed in Europe. The Ensemble
has been invited to take part in a large number of musical events both
in Italy and further afield: Festival Monteverdiano di Cremona, Festival
dell'Accademia Filarmonica Romana, Accademia di Santa Cecilia di Roma,
Festival de Versailles, Festival de Nancy, Rencontres de Musique
Ancienne de Ribeauvillé, Nantes, Metz, Caen, Lisbona, Festival de
Marseille, Festival d'Ambronay, Festival de Utrecht, Festival de Otono
de Madrid, Festival di Musica Antica de Tel Aviv, Festival Schleswig
Holstein in Germany, Cité de la Musique de Paris, Fundació La Caixa e
Palau de la Musica de Barcellona, Teatro Lope de Vega de Seviglia,
Konzerthaus in Vienna, Théatre La Monnaie et Festival de Wallonie in
Bruxelles, Fondation Royaumont.
In addition it has collaborated with il Piccolo Teatro
di Milano, Teatro Massimo di Palermo, l'Ente Lirico di Cagliari, Teatro
San Carlo di Napoli, Teatro Comunale di Ferrara, Teatro Ponchielli di
Cremona. The ensemble has made recordings for Radio France, the BBC, and
Belgian, Spanish and Austrian radio. In 1998 the Cappella was featured
in a documentary realized by Belgian television and in a film entirely
devoted to Opera Buffa for the French-German company ARTE. The group has
been particularly prolific in the recording studio, making seven CDs for
the Bolognese company Symphonia, all featuring unpublished works from
the Neapolitan Baroque repertoire, some of which won international
critics' prizes: choc musique and Premio Vivaldi from the Fondazione
Cini di Venezia. Since 1996 the group has recorded with the prestigious
label Opus 111 in Paris, for whom thirteen CDs have already appeared in
the series Trésors de Naples. Among the numerous international awards
feature the Record of the Year in 1996 from Le Monde, Premio Vivaldi
from the Fondazione Cini di Venezia, the Premio speciale Franco Abbiati
from the Associazione Nazionale Critici Musicali, 1997 and Diapason d'or
for Li Zite 'ngalera, 1999. |
